John Thompson to Present at AES Toronto's May Meeting

Veteran soundman for film John Thompson will give an overview of this often overlooked art of field recording and give a historical overview of the transition from analog to digital sound for film. Although the work is often times a challenge of compromise, John admits much of the process is about mastering the political as it is the technical.


John Thompson is a veteran of the film industry having captured sound for some of the most prestigious films and TV series in motion picture history. His film credits include Total Recall, Jumper, Cinderella Man and Dawn of the Dead. His television credits include work on Being Erika, Nakita, Beauty and the Beast and Copper. He has been nominated for Emmy, CAS and Genie Awards and won Gemini awards for Total Recall, Yo Yo Ma Inspired By Bach and Lives of the Saints. John is a member of IATSE Local 873 in Toronto.
